Nora Arrieta

Statement

Starting with pompous showpieces of the Baroque and Rococo ceramic tradition, Nora Arrieta invents and develops playful, narrative-detailed sculptures whose proliferating variety of forms and colorfully glazed surfaces combine to create a symphony of the senses, celebrating the everyday use of an object. These "impractical" objects, yet sometimes practical in their function, range from humorous espresso cups and delicate flower pots to lush candy holders.
Arrieta's narrative elements reflect motifs of everyday life, such as cars, cell phones, bathrooms, which are elevated from the banal to the paradisiacal through their imaginative visualization. In addition to classical ceramic techniques such as modeling and turning, she also draws on digital possibilities such as ceramic 3D printing and ceramic photo transfer.
