Alena Willroth's designs grow out of a desire to reflect the aesthetics of natural microforms in a work of art. She is constantly searching for unorthodox ways of expression. For her Slast jewelry collection, she developed a special welding process to create fi ligree shapes from polyethylene sheeting. In the process, the design drawing is transferred to the foil, hand-cut on it, and finally heat-treated. The result is strongly influenced by the will of the material and thus a fusion of design and joining. A little appreciated everyday object is transformed by imagination and craftsmanship into something unexpectedly valuable. The jewelry is made exclusively by hand without the use of lasers or 3-D technologies.
