CARAPAX
(shell-housing-armor)

My work focuses on sculptural work with ceramic materials on various themes.
Shells are containers or housings of receiving, storing, protecting and equally of opening, offering and surprising - in nature protective structures for animals and plants.
Functionality and aesthetic aspects meet here. I experiment with some manifestations of the shell, cancel the pure functionality, let free objects arise.
In some cases I combine colored porcelain with found plastic scraps, which I add and thermally deform.
From dark fireclay I create powerfully shaped bowl objects, every imprint of the hands from the process of creation remains visible.
I highlight these lively traces with loosely applied engobes and a little glaze.
The result is unique bowl formations of various characters, some of which also function as wall objects.
